Welcome to my website!
As a multifaceted artist and lifelong nomad, I love variety — it’s the spice of my life!
My creative disciplines include:
- writing on Medium and Substack
- poetry — it’s been a while but I’ll get back to it
- photography — for now exclusively with my old but still serviceable iPhone
- drawing — fast sketches with a fine-tipped black pen
- hand-built, smoke-fired pottery — throwing isn’t for me
- and now, here in Greece, handmade jewellery — bead earrings especially, but soon also items in silver clay.
My back story
I was born in northern Nigeria and lived there until just before my fifth birthday. Very formative years which have almost certainly influenced my love of ‘primitive’ pottery—West African pottery after all is world-renowned. London’s British Museum has a wonderful collection that I never tire of visiting.
After a later childhood in south London and a year as au-pair in France’s Loire valley, I chose to study French in wild West Wales. If it had been possible to find work in the area once I’d graduated, I’d have happily stayed on but the 70s were lean years and Wales suffered high unemployment.
Instead, I followed my now ex-husband to Cambridge where I spent 16 years living in and around the city, before moving to London’s East End. By then I was working as a freelance copywriter which gave me the freedom to fulfil my long-standing dream of living in France, (Finistère first which I still love and would happily return to) and then further south to the drier, sunnier department of the Gers.
Perhaps if I hadn’t been uprooted at a young age, I’d have managed to put down deep roots somewhere, but life decided otherwise and I’m very happy to be here in Greece, in the small port of Ancient Epidavros, where I’m renting an apartment with a view many people would give their eye teeth for!
